Description: This painting was inspired by bad weather. It was early April. It should have been warm and sunny and filled with the beauty of spring. It wasn't, and I was thoroughly sick of it. So, to cheer my mood, I decided I needed to create my own little piece of spring. I bought this bunch of tulips and irises at my local farmer's market. Then, because I had been experimenting with painting objects from unusual perspectives, I placed the vase directly under my feet and lit them from above. I was so inspired that in one long, wonderful session had what could have been a completed piece. However when I stepped back, I realized that the gray studio floor did nothing for the image. I knew it needed something. I went home to think, and the answer came to me -- along with the title. Since it looked like the viewer was diving into the bouquet, I replaced the floor with an active pool of water and titled the work Diving Into Spring. Enjoy!
