Portrait Price: $400 Description: I have always been taken by images that challenge standard expectations. That fascination has led me to a style of painting that I call "reality with a twist." While traveling in a town in the northern part of Ireland's West Coast, we came across this street scene. The saturated colors of the buildings and the lush look of the vegetation struck me as Mediterranean in feel, and I knew I had to paint it. The surprised and delighted response I routinely get when viewers note the actual locale of the image never fails to please me. The funny thing is that anyone who's spent much time in Ireland since they became Europe's Celtic Tiger would know that once they could afford do anything but white wash buildings, the Irish discovered a love of color when painting their homes. I think it brightens their lives even when colors are muted by the "Irish mist." |
