Description: There are three paintings in the Variations on a Rose series. The rose that inspired them all was on one of the table of the Railroad House Restaurant in Marietta, PA. It was bathed in the late-day light. The yellow of the rose seemed to glow from within, and I knew I had to paint it. The series grew out of it as a color exercise for myself. I changed the color of the rose, and then worked to capture the same feeling in the painting. I shifted each paintings values and background colors to keep the mood of the first painting when the color of the focal point (the rose) changed colors
