Hammers of the World, Unite! is a watercolor on primed canvas. I created it when I was part of an artist group that sometimes would challenge us to create works based on specific prompts. They asked us to create an interesting painting of a tool. I almost despaired of being able to do that when I noticed these hammers piled together. Seeing them caused the title "Hammers of the World Unite!" to pop into my head. The silliness of making that connection, and of spoofing the Soviet Union's rallying cry of "Workers of the World, Unite!" so appealed to me that I created this piece.

What are the advantages of buying a watercolor on primed canvas versus a traditional watercolor on paper? They are painted on canvas and sprayed with a protective coating, making them more resistant to water damage and fading. Also, you must frame traditional watercolors under glass to protect them, and glass can be expensive, adds a lot of weight to the framed piece, and is fragile. You can use an oil or watercolor frame to hang watercolors on a primed canvas. You can even hang them on their own only using picture hanging hardware.
